Attendance Boundaries & Proof of Residence

The Hanford Joint Union High School District (HJUHSD) has outlined specific school attendance boundaries for its three comprehensive high schools including Hanford High School, Hanford West High School, and Sierra Pacific High School. Although these boundaries can change depending on growth patterns in the city and our schools, the current boundaries should remain consistent for the next several years. Our district does have a transfer request process, however transfers will not be considered to schools that are already at capacity with students from within that school’s attendance boundary. For more information about attendance boundaries and to see where your residence falls, please scroll to the bottom of this page and refer to the “Kings County Boundary Map Program” for directions.

HJUHSD provides transportation shuttles between all of our schools both before and after school. Therefore, students on caregiver affidavits who may be living with a caregiver, will still be required to attend the school within their parent/Education Rights Holder’s residence. For example, if a student is living with a caregiver who resides within Hanford West High School’s attendance boundary, but their parents live within Hanford High School’s boundary, they would be able to walk to Hanford West and catch the shuttle to Hanford High where they would be required to enroll. This same rule applies to students who may be doubled up in a residence under the McKinney Vento Act who cannot provide proof of homelessness status. The bottom line is that we will get your student to the school in which the parent/guardian/education rights holder resides.

For the purpose of attendance, residence is determined by the person actually living at the residence in question. Property owners who lease or rent their property relinquish their right to residence and may not use that property for their own student’s attendance. Falsified or duplicated lease/rental agreements will be turned over to the Board of Realtors and Better Business Bureau for review. For the purpose of residence, property must include an actual registered and livable residence. It cannot be a vacant lot, a business, or farmland.

Our student information system recognizes any duplications in residence with both current and past students. Any system alert that recognizes two residents in one property will be required to share additional proof of actual residence including regular quarterly checks of documents and possible residence visits. Any student who is determined to have entered a school under falsified documentation will be made to move to their attendance boundary school immediately regardless of time of school year or grade level. All incoming students, starting school after 2025, will be required to show proof of residence regardless of a sibling having attended a school in another attendance area. To report a student or family you know is attending a school outside of their attendance boundary under false pretenses, use our StopIt Reporting System by clicking here.

Although we make every effort, please know the district cannot guarantee student attendance at a particular school, regardless of their home address. There may be instances when a school or grade level is filled to capacity resulting in a student being redirected to another school within the district, however, every student is guaranteed enrollment within our district.

The student registration process starts at the assigned school based on your home address.
