ESSER III Expenditure Plan
School districts, county offices, or charter schools that receive Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds under the American Rescue Plan Act, referred to as ESSER III funds are required to develop a plan for how they will use their ESSER II Funds. Hanford Joint Union High School District used the extensive input from the Expanded Learning Opportunities Grant Plan (ELOGP) and Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) in conjunction with ESSER III meetings to develop the expenditure plan. Community engagement opportunities throughout the 2020-2021 school year targeted the following stakeholder groups: students, parents/guardians, school and district administrators, teachers, support staff, ELAC/DELAC, SELPA, Local Bargaining Units, and the parents/guardians of students with disabilities, students experiencing homelessness, students in foster care, and military-dependent students. HJUHSD plans to use ESSER III funds in the following ways:
- Provide an Energy Management System (EMS) - this will allow HJUHSD to achieve energy efficiency by optimizing energy used by individual pieces of equipment
- Provide outdoor seating - this will provide a safe environment for students to interact during lunch, break times, and learning
- Relocate Hanford Community Day School (CDS) - the relocation of CDS will provide additional access to MTSS, classroom space, outdoor eating facilities, and comprehensive administrative site support
- Prove new windows for the Hanford High cafeteria - this will allow additional spaces for students and staff to safely and securely congregate
- Provide an HVAC for Hanford High cafeteria - we will replace the swamp cooler in the Hanford High cafeteria with a safer and more efficient HVAC unit
- Provide more sections of Unit Recovery - this will provide additional opportunities for students to regain the educational ground they have lost
- Expanding Summer School - providing a more comprehensive Summer School will help students regain the educational ground they have lost
- Prep Buyouts - we have offered and arranged more opportunities for teachers to sell their prep periods, which helps provide smaller class sizes for students and teachers
- Provide 0-Hour - we have established a 0 hour time before school to provide additional opportunities for students to receive the targeted information they need
- Provide more certificated/classified positions - because of fiscal uncertainty due to COVID-19, we held off filing vacant certificated/classified positions in the spring of 2020 but with funds like ESSER III we have been able to fill these positions
