Welcome, Freshmen! Choosing Your First-Year Courses
As you get ready to start your high school journey, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to shape your schedule by choosing some of your courses! Here’s what you need to know:
How Many Classes Do You Take?
High school students typically have seven classes each day. For freshmen, four of those spots are already filled with:
- English
- Math
- Science (Biology or Biology & Sustainable Agriculture)
- PE
That leaves three elective classes for you to choose!
What You’ll Choose
- Science: You’ll pick either Biology or Biology & Sustainable Agriculture.
- Electives: You’ll choose three primary electives and three back-up electives. Back-ups are important in case your top picks aren’t available. (Scroll below to see your options)
What’s Already Decided
- English and Math: These courses are assigned for you based on teacher recommendations, past grades, and state assessments. (Scroll below to see more about the placement process)
- PE: All freshmen are automatically enrolled in Physical Education 1 as a state requirement.
How Course Selection Works
Remember, course selection is NOT first-come, first-serve. Your schedule depends on course offerings and available space. While we can’t guarantee your top choices, we’ll do our best to match your interests!
Students will receive their schedule during walkthrough - an event that takes place shortly before the start of school. Schools will communicate about walkthrough during the summer.
Check out our graduation requirements here to help you plan. Interested in attending a UC or CSU after high school? Then also check out their requirements here.
The registration form for incoming freshmen will be sent via ParentSquare on February 17th. You can see the timeline here.
We’re excited to help you kick off a great year—get ready for an awesome high school adventure!
