Graduation Requirements: Your path to a Diploma

At HJUHSD, we believe every student’s journey is unique, and we’re here to help you reach your goals. You’ll work closely with a counselor to create a customized academic plan that builds on your strengths and aligns with your dreams. These plans are reviewed and updated each year to keep you on track for graduation and beyond.

To earn a comprehensive high school diploma, you’ll need to complete a total of 265 units, which includes specific subject requirements and a wide range of electives. Here’s a breakdown of what’s required:

Elective units come from courses you take beyond the minimum requirements for each subject, giving you the freedom to explore your interests and broaden your skills.

The total units required for graduation: 265 units.

If you’re attending Earl F. Johnson Continuation High School, you can earn a diploma with 220 units, including 70 elective units, as long as you meet all other requirements and attend EFJ for your entire senior year.

All HJUHSD students follow a core curriculum with opportunities to customize their learning through alternative pathways and flexible course options. Graduation requirements may change based on state and district policies, so stay connected with your counselor to keep your plan up-to-date.
