Literature & Composition - AP

Course Description:
This AP course is designed to expose students to a level of literary analysis they will encounter in college. The focus is on classic and contemporary poetry and prose.  The course engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through close reading of selected texts, students deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide meaning and pleasure for readers. As they read, students consider structure, style, themes, and smaller-scale elements, such as figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. Such in-depth reading leads to in-depth, college-level writing.
