Mission Statement: Our mission is to prepare students who have an interest in the health sciences to successfully pursue higher learning and a profession in an ever-changing world. We focus on student-centered learning; provide experiences that motivate all students; provide a rigorous and technologically enhanced curriculum; and inspire creative, critical, and analytical thinking.

The Medical Academy is an academic program composed of nine Patient Care pathways. Students will be exposed to standards that apply to occupations or functions involved in the preservation of mental and physical well-being through the services offered by the medical and allied health professions. Each pathway within the Medical Academy is comprised of a sequence of courses that build upon the previous course. Students will experience work-based learning opportunities including job shadowing, interview preparation, guest speakers, and internships.

Intro to Medical Careers- 9th Grade
This is an introductory course intended to give students a chance to explore the healthcare industry and the possible career paths within the industry. This course is a prerequisite for the Medical Academy pathway.

Medical Terminology- 10th Grade
Medical Terminology is the second course in the Health Science and Medical Technology Pathway for Patient Care. The course is centered on the language of healthcare (Medical Terminology) and medical
abbreviations through a systems approach. Emphasis is on providing students with a thorough understanding of the terminology of
body systems and their interrelationships. -
Intermediate Patient Care- 11th Grade
This course builds on basic principles of medical science, terminology, and vocabulary needed to work in the healthcare field. Students will focus on anatomy, physiology, pathologies of the various systems,
structural details of the human body, and a rigorous study of the body system. Students will apply scientific methodologies of developing hypotheses, evaluating data, inquiring, and drawing conclusions about the practices employed by healthcare professionals. Comprehensive medical vocabulary will be related to body styles and medical specialties. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, technology, and career opportunities in health care; as well as the roles and responsibilities of the health care team. In addition, students will receive instruction in CPR and First Aid. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a work-based learning Community Classroom. -
Advanced Nursing Assistant- 12th Grade
This course provides entry-level training, leading to nursing assistants.
