HAS Programs and Courses
Hanford Adult School classes are open to adults 18 years of age or older
who meet educational prerequisites and criteria and can profit from
instruction.
All High School Diploma, GED, and Adult Basic Education must complete
Testing and Orientation.
Due to state budget cuts, the Hanford Adult School will reduce course offerings in 2010-2011. Because of the reductions to programs and class times and the resulting limitation on numbers of students, HAS will not be accepting concurrent high school students for enrollment in 2010-2011.
HAS will offer the following programs in Fall, 2010:
- High School Diploma / General Educational Development (GED)
- Certificated teachers will administer the HSD Program and GED Certificate Program in “Learning Lab” settings. The Learning Labs will be designed to allow students to use computer programs to learn skills and earn credits. Teachers and staff will be on-hand to help with questions or concerns, but most learning will be computer-based.
- HAS will continue to administer GED examinations.
- Students will also have the opportunity to prepare for the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE), which HAS will continue to administer.
- Independent Study (IS) will also be available for HSD students who are unable to attend a Learning Lab. IS will be based on available space and the ability of the student to successfully work independently.
- There will be a $25 materials fee per student, per semester for the HSD Program.
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
- A certificated teacher will administer ESL courses via the Adult School’s Distance Learning (DL) Program. Interested students may enroll and continue their study of the English language. The HAS Citizenship preparation program will also be conducted through the DL Program.
- There will be a $25 materials fee per student, per semester
- Older Adults Program
- Older Adult programs, such as computer courses, will be based on demand and will be fee-based.
